Upgrade Guide

Get started on the new version of StepBridge in 10 minutes.

This guide helps you switch from the old to the new version of StepBridge. You'll learn what has changed, how to make the most of the new version, and how to remove the old one.

Why a new version?

The old version of StepBridge was built with technology that was once modern but has since become outdated. This made it increasingly difficult to improve and modernise StepBridge. The new version is built with modern technology, resulting in a fresh look, a better user experience, and the ability to add new features much more easily.

What has changed?

The core of StepBridge remains the same: everything you could do in the old version is still available in the new one.

The new version adds, among other things:

  • A flexible interface that you can customise yourself (for example, font size and display).
  • A consistent look on every device: the app feels familiar everywhere.
  • Integrated audio and video functionality.
  • Playing with Sabi, our bridge robot.
  • Easier incident reporting.
  • Small improvements to the user experience.

The focus is on a better user experience with several useful improvements, without StepBridge feeling fundamentally different.

Removing the old version

The old app and the new app can work side by side, but we recommend removing the old version first. This way, you won't accidentally start the old version when you want to log in with the new one.

Here's how to remove the old version.

Installing the new version

You can play on StepBridge with virtually any modern computer or tablet. StepBridge works as an app on Windows and Mac, and as a web version in the browser (including Linux).

Go to the download and installation instructions for your device.

Logging in

After starting StepBridge, the Log in window appears. Enter your existing username and password.

Forgotten your password? You can easily request a new one via this page.

Playing on your own computer or tablet? Leave Remember password on and click Log in.

You will then see this message:

You have successfully logged in to StepBridge.
You have entered the Competition activity.

You can start playing immediately by registering for QuickStep or joining a tournament. These options are directly visible on the main screen.

There are a few new elements that we describe separately below.

Profile menu

You can find the profile menu at the top right of the main screen — it shows your initials.

In this menu, you can:

  • Switch between light and dark mode.
  • Adjust the general volume.
  • Choose and edit a convention card.
  • Change settings.
  • Log in directly to the StepBridge portal without entering your password.
  • Go to the StepBridge website.
  • Log out.

Settings

The settings menu can be found in the profile menu. The new version offers far more customisation options than the old version, especially regarding display settings.

We recommend experimenting with the different options. This is easiest at a Sabi table when a board is in play — you can immediately see how each change looks on your screen.

Sabi

Sabi is StepBridge's bridge robot. You can only play with Sabi using the new version. Learn how it works in the Sabi instructions.

What's next

With the instructions above, you can now make full use of the new version of StepBridge. We encourage you to try out different options and explore buttons you haven't tried yet. That's the fastest way to get to know StepBridge.

The controls are largely the same, so you won't encounter any big surprises.

Enjoy the new version!
